Boun Pra Vet - May 21 - 23, 2010
A time to follow in Buddha's footsteps. Some men will be ordained as monks for a few days, or weeks, and some may stay forever.

  • Boun Ma Ka Boun Cha - January 30, 2010
    On this day we celebrate the accomplishments
    and achievements of Buddha in his lifetime.
  • Boun Pi Mai (Ceremony) - April 17, 2010
    A time for spiritual cleansing and a opportunity to start anew. We will be celebrating Lao New Year with the presenting of alms in the morning and a afternoon ceremony.
  • Boun Vi Sa Ka Bou Cha- May 2, 2010
    Similar to Boun Ma Ka Boun Cha in March, but instead of celebrating his achievements, we celebrate his birth and his attainment of enlightment.
  • Boun Pi Mai (Celebration) - May 8-9, 2010
    Saturday, May 8th:
    The annual display of traditional Lao customs and culture. There will be performances of traditional Lao dances by the Lao youth from our community, as well as live music, and food.
    Sunday, May 9:
    Parade of "Hair Nang Songkarn" (Miss Lao New Year) will be held in the morning and of course again, there will be the music and food.

  • Boun Khao Phan Sa - July 25, 2010
    The beginning of the rains retreat; for monks that means a three month period of fasting and meditation.
  • Boun HorKhaoPaDabDin - September 5, 2010
    Ceremonial day of remembrance where food and gifts are offered to the spirits of loved ones.
  • Boun Hor Khao Sa Lark - September 19, 2010
    On this day, food and gifts are offered to lost spirits who still wander the earth.
  • Boun Ork Phan Sa - October 23, 2010
    The end of the rains retreat; the end of the three months of fasting and meditation for monks.
  • Boun Ka Thin - November 7, 2010
    A day where offerance of the kathin robes, among other useful items, are made to monks.
  • Boun Na Ma Sa Karn Pra Thath Luang - November 21, 2010
    Homage is paid to the Lao National Monument, the Thath Luang stupa.
  • Boun Koun Larn Khao - December 19, 2010
    On this day, we show appreciation and pay respect to the harvest, especially the rice.

 

NEWS

May 2-3, 2009 - The Lao New Year celebration has come to past and on behalf of the Lao Buddhist Temple of Colorado. I would like to thank everyone who endured the cold and rain on Saturday, aswell as everyone who came out on Sunday to celebrate the New Year and in essence supporting the temple; just like in every day life, you take the good with the bad. I would also like to thank and congratulate the performers for doing a fantastic job and making the whole festival that much more enjoyable. Car Wash Fundraiser 2008

The Lao Buddhist Temple of Colorado Dragonboat Festival youth team held a car wash fundraiser to raise money for various expenses involving our dragonboat endeavors, as well as money for various temple expenses.

New Years 2008

Lao New Year is the most eventful day of the year at the Lao Buddhist Temple of Colorado. Every year the community comes out to celebrate new beginnings and rid their lives of the bad and look forward to the good. It truly is a festive time; there's music and dancing, food and beverages, and more importantly, lao culture is at full display.
